In the first five months of this year, China's steel exports have declined. Industry insiders said that the global epidemic has led to a significant reduction in China's steel exports. With increasing market supply and decreasing demand, China's steel exports may decrease in June.
According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in May 2020, my country’s steel exports were 4.401 million tons, a decrease of 1.918 million tons from the previous month, a drop of 30.4%; from January to May, my country’s cumulative steel exports were 25.002 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.0%. my country imported 1.280 million tons of steel in May, an increase of 274,000 tons from the previous month, an increase of 27.2%; from January to May, my country's cumulative steel imports were 5.464 million tons, an increase of 12.0% year-on-year.
"my country's steel exports in May fell sharply, which has a lot to do with the global epidemic that has not yet been fully controlled." said Li Xueping, an analyst at Jinlianchuang Steel. Affected by the epidemic, overseas steel demand has continued to drop sharply, and steel export orders have dropped sharply, but resources put on the domestic market and low-priced import resources have increased. In June, the domestic and foreign epidemics were fermenting again, and the off-season effect gradually appeared. The supply continued to increase, but the demand decreased. Li Xueping predicted that China's steel imports and exports in June may all decrease.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics: China's crude steel output in May 2020 was 92.27 million tons, an increase of 4.2% year-on-year; based on this, the average daily crude steel output in May was 2.976 million tons; the cumulative crude steel output from January to May was 41175 10,000 tons, an increase of 1.9% year-on-year. In May 2020, my country's steel production was 114.53 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%; based on this, the average daily output of steel in May was 3.695 million tons; the cumulative output of steel from January to May was 488.19 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.2%.
"China's steel and crude steel output increased substantially in May, of which crude steel output increased by 8.5% from the previous month, setting a new monthly output, mainly driven by infrastructure construction and the recovery of manufacturing." Li Xueping said, China's steel and crude steel output The reason for the surge is that inventories continue to decline; on the other hand, the demand for infrastructure projects is strong and the real estate market is resilient. In May, the resumption rate of the downstream steel industry in the terminal industry increased steadily. In addition, the overall performance of the spot price was strong, and the market demand has risen sharply. At the same time, the blast furnace maintenance and production restrictions have been greatly reduced, and the operating rate of the steel mills has increased. From the perspective of the market transactions in the month, the overall The trading volume increased significantly. Affected by the high temperature and rainy weather in June, some steel mills began to overhaul the blast furnace, the rolling line stopped production, and the thread output declined slightly, but the overall rate was not large. It is expected that the output in June may fall slightly.
